Space Arena: Rules

0.2

1. Space Arena is an expansion of Naval Arena. Combat happens with "Mixed rules" version of NA (by default; any variant may be used), with the exception that all ships are destroyed at 5 points of damage.

2. The wider game board consists of 8 planets and 7 moons: Mercury, Venus, Earth (Moon), Mars, Jupiter (Io, Europa, Ganymede, Callisto), Saturn (Titan), Uranus, Neptune (Triton)

2a. Planets and moons are divided to "habitable" ones and "mining" ones.
Habitable planets/moons are: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Ganymede, Callisto, Titan
Mining planets/moons are: Moon, Jupiter, Io, Europa, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Triton

(Note: they are in fact divided by size; the "habitable" ones are largest objects except for the four gas giant planets)

3. Each planet and moon belongs to the player whose ship has last been on it. Any planet/moon where no player has yet been or where currently are ships of two or more players doesn't belong to anyone.

4. During a turn player may once move each ship he/she has. Move is either traveling from a planet/moon to another OR a move (and/or shot) on orbit represented by NA board.

4a. If there are ships of two players on a planet/moon, they can not leave; they must battle until ships of only one player remain.

4b. A ship may move from a planet only to its moon(s) or to planet(s) next to it (in order Mercury-Venus-Earth-Mars-Jupiter-Saturn-Uranus-Neptune) or the moon(s) of next planet(s).
A ship may move from a moon only to its planet or another moon of the planet (between Jupiter's moons) or to planet(s) next to it or the moon(s) of next planet(s).

4c. When a ship moves to another planet/moon, the player must choose a square to enter on the grid(=board) which will be the center of the ship. Ships moving planet-to-planet enter vertical, Ships moving to/from a moon horizontal.

5. Every turn players gain 1 Crew Point (CP) for each habitable planet/moon they have and 1 Material Point (MP) for each mining planet/moon.

5a. With 5 CP and 5 MP player can build a new ship (of any of the three types, Corvette/Cruiser/Battleship; see NA rules).
The new ship is put on any planet/moon player holds (on chosen square, vertical/horizontal by choice).
Player who doesn't have any planets/moons can not create new ships even if he/she had the required CP/MP.

6. Each player starts game with two ships (chosen of the three types). Player chooses one planet or moon to set the ships and board positions (square, V/H).

6a. During game opening (Turn 0/1) rule 4a is not in effect. If two players choose same planet to start, they are allowed to make first move of each ship to another planet/moon.

7. Game ends when only one player has ship(s) OR habitable AND mining planet/moon(s). Each player is removed from game when he/she has no ships and only habitable or mining planet/moon(s) (or neither).
(In game of 3+ players, when a player is removed any planets/moons belonging to that player become effectively non-owned.)

Re: Space Arena: Rules

Rules version 0.4

1. Space Arena is an expansion of Naval Arena. Combat happens with "Mixed rules" version of NA (by default; any variant may be used), with the exception that all ships are destroyed at 5 points of damage (3 if only one ship type is used).

3. Each planet and moon belongs to the player whose ship has last been on it; player gains ownership turn after the one when his/her ship arrived (even if the ship doesn't remain there, as long as no ship of other player arrives). Any planet/moon where no player has yet been doesn't belong to anyone.
When a battle begins on an owned planet/moon, the ownership remains until the battle is solved.
(Old rule version/optional variant: during battles the planet/moon remains unowned.)

Ships moving planet-to-planet enter vertical, ships moving between a planet and it's moon or Jupiter moons horizontal.

5. Every turn players gain 1 Crew Point (CP) for each habitable planet/moon they have and 1 Material Point (MP) for each mining planet/moon.

5a. With 10 CP and 10 MP (by default) player can build a new ship (of any of the three types, Corvette/Cruiser/Battleship; see NA rules).
The new ship is put on any planet/moon player held previous turn (on chosen square, vertical/horizontal by choice).

X. Suggested rule variants:
- all ships enter game and board/battle area at D5, horizontal if moving between planet and it's moon or Jupiter moons, otherwise vertical (ignore 4c)
- the old version of rule 3
- starting with 1 or 3 ships or 2(/3) ship starting on different planets/moons
- 2 CP/MP for planets, 1 for moons
- movement only between planets or planet and it's own moon (or between Jupiter moons)
