Re: Intro to "The Case of the Dead Pirate!"
The current game board is designed for 12-24 players but the current beta test group is only 3 players. We could do a beta test using just one area of the game board to try and get a feel for what play would be like in a more fully populated game.
Matter of fact we could do 4 different betas that way (one for each section) either at the same time of one after the other which would also help determine how balanced the different sections are.

Re:
With all due respect, Pastor Rick, I just don't have time to continue doing these beta tests, especially if players are going to disappear from the board for days (or even a week) at a time. As I said, I really don't think it's a feasible format, but that's just me.

Re: Intro to "The Case of the Dead Pirate!"
It is one terribly sad weakness of playing in this and similar formats that players disappear. A private site where I game, we have a guideline/rule that if a player is gone for 14 days, then the GM of the game can adopt their character out to another player. We have had players disappear for even months! We have also (optionally) had the GM often stepping in to take absent players' turns for them.
For our two beta-test pirate games here on If... -- and speaking only by comparison to what I mention above -- we have been rather active even with real life hindering.
. . .
I can see Catcherlady's point. It seems to me that we are already at the limit of our participation -- for the current three players.
EDIT: Also, I want to forewarn you all that I plan to quit at the end of this second game. Too much going on elsewhere often makes me too frazzled to concentrate even on this type of game.

Re:
Same here, Warrior, that was my point. I wasn't singling out any one player...we've all got a lot on our hands and that's only going to get worse in the coming weeks with the holidays approaching. That's why I said it's just too hard to keep up. I'll probably step out too once this one is over.

Re:
If we could get more players I think it would move faster and be more fun. But as you two have said, right now it is just becoming a chore. And I will be moving soon so time will really be limited for me.

Re: Intro to "The Case of the Dead Pirate!"
My thought is that with just the 3 of you beta testing on a board designed for 24 players is also slowing things down and I can see how it is becoming a chore instead of a fun game. I really appreciate your efforts (and I like Old Warriors "adoption" idea).
My suggestion is to cut the size of the playing area to just one of the lettered sections if... you want to continue helping to get the rules set, cleaned up, and perfected. With just 9 areas to search that would make a 3 player test go much faster I think, even with life intrusions that we know will slow things down.

Re: Intro to "The Case of the Dead Pirate!"
It seems that even for the beta testing, the plea will be similar to the site I mentioned above: "We need to recruit more players." :)

Re: Intro to "The Case of the Dead Pirate!"
Absolutely Old Warrior, I am going to start another recruitment drive tomorrow and hopefully we can get some new players that could "share" a player. Maybe that is the ticket. A team of players for each of the character slots would mean anyone on a team could act for that character so real life events don't hinder game play so much...
