Game Movement

Instead of dice a players action points are based on the time the previous player made their post with the exception of the first player move where the action points are based on the "Game Open" posting.

It takes 1 action point to go from area to area inside a zone.

It takes 3 action points to use the "sea lane" shortcut between zones.

It takes 5 action points to go between zones over land.

It takes 5 action points to blockade a area from other pirates for one turn.

The time of the previous persons post will tell you how many action points you have. Each number in the previous persons post is like a die roll. You get the total of the "minutes" as your die roll normally. You may add a number from the "hours" die roll as long as your die roll total is 10 or less. The maximum number of action points per turn is 15.

Using this post has an example:

The time of my original post was 9:28 am so I get 10 action points (2 + 8 = 10). Since my total is 10 or less I am able to look at the "hours" to see if I can add any more to that total. In this case my total would exceed the maximum allowed (9 hours + my initial total of 10 = 19) so I can not add the hours to my total. For this turn I have 10 action points to play with.

To create another example: if the post was made at 12:55 pm my first total is 10 like the previous example (5 + 5 = 10). Looking at the hours I see I can add both the 1 and the 2 to my total so my action points would be 1 + 2 + 5 + 5 = 13 action points. Since the total does not exceed 15 I would have 13 action points to play with during my turn.

If... you are a player who discovers that even after adding the "hours die roll" to your total you have less than 7 action points then you get 7 actions points for that turn. Seven action points is the absolute minimum number of action points per turn per player.

Re: Game Movement

Hey, Pastor Rick, I really like this method as a dice rolling substitute. I may borrow it for some type of message board-based gaming in the future.

I do, however, see a slight potential for someone to purposely post at a time that might limit the next player's number of action points, but, I would presume that this is going to be a more or less casual game -- not a heavily competitive type of game. Just in case though, I would recommend a minimum number of action points as well.

Good idea OldWarrior. I added a minimum number that is 1/2 a point below the "die roll average." emoticon

Re: Game Movement

Now that there are more posts to work with lets see if this will make the system easier to understand.

Pastor Rick posted at 9:28 am

Now OldWarrior comes in to take his turn. He looks at the time of Pastor Rick's post and adds the numbers in the minutes together (2 + 8 = 10). Since he has 10 or less he now looks at the hours but finds no joy there because the number 9 would take him over the maximum of 15. OldWarrior's "Action Point" total for his turn is 10.

Justbec comes in next and looks to see when OldWarrior made his post. The time of his post was 8:50 am

Justbec adds the numbers in the minutes together (5 + 0 = 5). Since she has 10 or less she looks at the hours and discovers she can use the 8 since the new total would be less than the maximum of 15. So (5 + 8 = 13) means Justbec's "Action Point" total for her turn is 13.

Now Catcherlady comes in to take her turn. She looks at Justbec's post and sees that Justbec posted on 7:13 pm.

Catcherlady adds the numbers in the minutes together (1 + 3 = 4). Like Justbec, Catherlady can look at the hours for help because her total is 10 or less (in this sequence the total is only 4). Catcherlady finds joy because she can add the 7 to her total without going over 15 (4 + 7 = 11). Catcherlady has 11 "Action points" to use in her turn.

Pastor Rick now comes in to take his turn. He looks at the time of Catcherlady's post for his numbers and sees that Catcherlady posted at 7:31 pm.

Pastor Rick adds the minutes together (3 + 1 = 4). Since 4 does not even come close to the number 10 he looks at the hours and finds he can use the number 7 in the hours. Pastor Rick gets 11 "Action points" for his turn (4 + 7 = 11).

So with these examples can you tell how many "Action points" the next player will have by looking at this post?

Hey, I think I would like to take my turn now, since Pastor Rick's post would give me 5 + 9 = 14 Action Points! :)
